Taking it to a New Level

Scott Marsh, D.C.

Something happened recently that I just have to share with you.  One of our practice members (she used to work here) sent me an email asking if I thought I could help her friend, Paula.  She went on to tell me that her friend had suffered some major injuries that resulted in the last three bones in her neck being fused together with a metal plate and screws.  OUCH!  Well, since the surgery, she was running through the woods and ran into a low-hanging tree limb, which hit her in the throat, cracking the plate in her neck! DOUBLE OUCH! Since then, she has been in constant pain, and her health, both physically and emotionally, has deteriorated severely.  Doctors have since diagnosed her with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and many other ailments.

I told our practice member that the only way I could honestly predict whether I could help her friend was to examine her.  Well, the next day she drove to north Knoxville to pick up Paula, who was in too much pain to drive, and she brought her to our office.  When I met Paula, she was in severe pain and was scared to death. I reassured her that I would do nothing to hurt her, and would only accept her for care if I thought I could help her.  Following an in-depth consultation, examination and x-rays, I determined that the majority of her pain and loss of function was most likely not coming from the broken plate itself, but from massive, long-standing uncorrected VSC (vertebral subluxation complex).  I informed her that I was accepting her case, and that I thought I could help her regain her health and hopefully avoid a second surgery.

The night after her first (very gentle and specific) adjustment, I received a phone call. It was Paula.   She thanked me, and related to me that she had already experienced some temporary relief, and had actually danced a little, laughed, and actually did a cartwheel!

We both acknowledge that it is going to take many months to see maximum healing in her condition, but she now has something she hasn’t had in years…hope.  She is committed to driving from north Knoxville three times a week for as long as it takes to receive the care she needs, and her friend is committed to going to get her until she can drive herself.  Oh, and she has no insurance…she’s paying for every visit out of her own pocket.

With this level of commitment from Paula, the support of her friends and a positive outlook, what do you think her chances for recovery are?  My money is on Paula.

What’s holding you back?  If you have been half-way committed to your care…to your health…if you haven’t mentioned chiropractic to your friends…your family…your coworkers because you’re afraid of what they may think or say…because you think they are too far gone and nothing can be done…what are you waiting for?

I believe that God moves when we move.  Let’s commit to playing full-out…100%...and see what we can accomplish together.  How many Paula’s do you know?  And thank you for making it such a joy to spend each day with individuals like yourself and the people you refer to our office…we appreciate you!
